The people who fish in Five Fathom Hole harbour just west of Saint John will be getting a little extra peace of mind with the federal government investing in new floating wharves for the area.
That’s according to Vice-President of the Harbour Authority for Lorneville and Five Fathom Hole Jeff Maguire who says that when the docks are installed they won’t have to worry about the boats breaking away during winter storms.
Saint John MP Rodney Weston says the Five Fathom Hole harbour is an important harbour when it comes to difficult weather saying that vessels that would normally go into Lorneville will be able to come into Five Fathom Hole harbour for shelter from storms.
Lobster is the main catch at the harbour and scallops are caught as well. The wharf is used by about eight commercial fishing boats.
Weston says this project will begin in the fall and go to tender very soon.
