Federal Justice Minister Jody Wilson-Raybould says it’s long past time to modernise the criminal code especially when it comes to sexual assault. Legislation has been introduced that will make it clear an unconscious person cannot consent to having sex.
She also says there will be no delay in legalising marijuana which is expected by July of next year. Quebec had requested a delay to allow more time to get the regulatory framework in place.
Wilson-Raybould adds the Trudeau Government is not opposed to mandatory minimum sentences for the most serious of crimes.
