Poor water quality has closed Parlee Beach and Murray Beach for swimming a number of times this summer which has been creating bigger crowds at other beaches along the Northumberland coast.
Natasha Bell, a member of the “Save Wetlands Water and Tourism” coalition, says she lives near Aboiteau Beach and she has noticed it is now much busier.
“I went down (recently) and I’ve never seen so many. So the word is out that it (Aboiteau) is seen as the cleaner beach. Well, let’s not kid ourselves. It is the cleaner beach because currently they are only testing once a week,” she notes.
Bell is also concerned about a proposed 250-lot trailer park development at Aboiteau Beach and the impact that could have on water quality.
She urges residents to get involved and contact government representatives to help stop overdevelopment along the coastline.
