If you are heading to the Cherry Brook Zoo in Saint John this weekend, you may notice some new additions.
The zoo recently welcomed another baby alpaca named Caramel.
Executive director Martha McDevitt told us how they came up with that name.
“We did a poll through the community to name her,” said McDevitt. “We put it out, people put their suggestions in, then we put it in a poll and people voted.”
Caramel is a half-sister to Chewpaca, or Chewie for short, who was born earlier this year.
McDevitt said they also welcomed a red-necked wallaby, who arrived with a joey in her pouch.
“We weren’t expecting that she had a joey so she ended up actually coming with a baby in her pouch,” she said. “We did a contest with her too and her name is Roo.”
McDevitt said they asked the public to help name the new animals because they want people to feel like they are part of the zoo.
