Early in the new year, Brian Gallant will be stepping down as Liberal leader and plans to leave political life behind.
During a news conference on Friday, Gallant said he has no plans at the moment.
“I’m looking forward to the tail-end of the holidays to relax a little bit, reconnect a bit more with my friends and family, and certainly look forward to future opportunities,” Gallant said.
“At this point, I’m going to continue to serve as the MLA for Shediac Bay-Dieppe for the time being and obviously start to contemplate on what will be next for Karine and I.”
In terms of any regrets in politics, Gallant said he wished he had done more to unite the province surrounding controversial issues such as bilingualism.
Gallant intends to remain neutral in the upcoming Liberal leadership race and has some advice for the party’s next leader.
“A piece of advice that I’ll have for the person will be to make sure that they start right away to get as election-ready as possible because an election could be called or we could see the government fall at any moment.”
