More details have now been released in the search for 34-year-old Luc Bourgeois.
RCMP Cpl. Andrew Paynter says he left the Pointe-du-ChĂȘne wharf in his kayak at around 1 p.m. Thursday for a fishing trip.
He was spotted on the water off the Shediac Coast over the next hour in his boat, but RCMP say there didn’t appear to be any concern.
When he didn’t return at around 3 p.m., his family became worried and called the RCMP and search and rescue.
The Joint Rescue Coordination Centre dispatched a helicopter, and another aircraft assisted in the search throughout the night.
Ground search and rescue has also joined in the hunt, along with RCMP divers.
Paynter adds that no foul play is suspected, and they remain hopeful that Bourgeois may have made it to the coastline.
Family and friends are reporting on social media that his kayak, life jacket and phone have been found, but Paynter could not confirm that.
Bourgeois is described as around 5’6″, weighing around 170 pounds with long curly brown hair, a beard and brown eyes.
He was last seen wearing black shorts, a blue and gray lifejacket, a Bass Pro Shops hat, sunglasses and black Under Armour sandals.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Shediac RCMP at 506-533-5151.
