The federal government is investing over $13 million into 15 community-based organizations to make sexual and reproductive health services more accessible across Canada.
Health Minister Marjorie Michel made the announcement in Montreal, highlighting that many people still face barriers such as lack of provider training, stigma, discrimination, and geographic isolation.
The funding comes through the Sexual and Reproductive Health Fund and will support projects aimed at expanding public awareness, developing new resources for health-care providers, and covering travel and logistical costs for people seeking abortion care.
Since 2021, Ottawa has backed 36 projects through the fund. The government says the goal is to ensure people — especially women, youth, Indigenous and racialized people, and 2SLGBTQI+ communities — can access safe, inclusive, and reliable services regardless of where they live.
Officials described the funding as a concrete step toward advancing gender equality, protecting bodily autonomy, and building a more equitable health system in Canada.
