The funerals may be over but the healing has just begun in Fredericton after four people were gunned down on the city’s north side.
Const. Robb Costello, 45, Const. Sara Burns, 43, Donnie Robichaud, 42, and Bobbie Lee Wright, 32, were shot and killed outside an apartment building on the morning of Aug. 10.
It is a tragedy for any community, but in a city with fewer than 60,000 people, it is hard to find someone who does not know at least one of the victims.
City councillor Bruce Grandy told our newsroom many people are still in shock, but others are wondering what they can do to support one another.
“I’ve lived here all my life, been a councillor since 2004, and I’ve never seen such a giving community,” Grandy said. “I look around at communities and Fredericton is always willing to give, always willing to support during times of crisis.”

Grandy said the city will be engaging the community in the coming weeks to help start the healing process.
Deputy Premier Stephen Horsman is the area MLA and offered some advice for those still reeling from this tragedy.
“Be around people, being around friends and family, I think, is the best way that we’re all going to cope,” Horsman said. “It’s what I needed.”
Both Horsman and Grandy said the city is resilient and the community will heal together.
